Joint Replacement Handout

One-page "Getting Ready" handout to give patients the day they decide on joint replacement.

What this is

A one-page handout for patients who have just decided on knee, hip, or shoulder replacement. It opens with Dr. Allred's line — "You have a lot of work to do to get ready. Let's get you started." — lists the high-value steps to begin this week, and points them (QR code + web address) to their complete online surgery guide.

How to use it

  • Print on plain letter paper — color preferred.
  • Hand it to the patient at the decision visit. The QR code takes them to darinallredmd.com/get-ready, where they choose their procedure and hospital for the full step-by-step guide.

Good to know

  • The "start this week" items are the ones that need lead time — movement, protein, quitting smoking, blood-sugar control, treating any active dental problem (a routine dental visit is not required for everyone), the H&P, medications, and lining up a caregiver.
  • The near-surgery details (vitamins, CHG skin washes, the carbohydrate drink, home setup) live in the online guide and the pre-op instruction sheet, timed to the surgery date.
Questions about this protocol? Call the clinic where the surgery was performed — Dr. Allred is happy to talk through the plan.
