FELLOWSHIP-TRAINED ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON · PILOT
Big-city surgical expertise. Delivered to your hometown.
Dr. Darin W. Allred has spent more than 22 years doing one thing: fixing joints. The first 15 were in Denver, where he built the kind of practice other surgeons trust with their hardest cases — mastering arthroscopic joint preservation, treating complex referrals, and standing at conference podiums teaching arthroscopic techniques to surgeons from around the world. Today his practice has evolved to specialize in total joint replacement of the knee, hip, and shoulder, backed by the full range of surgical, arthroscopic, and non-surgical care for the knee, shoulder, elbow, hand, hip, foot, and ankle.
It started earlier than medical school. "My love of orthopedics started in high school. I worked in the OR transporting patients and cleaning the floors between surgeries. When I saw my first orthopedic surgery, I was hooked. It just took one surgery."
Born in Utah and raised in small-town Southeast Texas, he trained across the country — medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, and a Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy fellowship in San Diego.
Then, seven years ago, he changed course. He'd fallen in love with flying, and he'd never stopped missing small towns and the people in them. So he returned to Utah and pointed his plane at the places big-city medicine doesn't reach. He now flies to five communities across Nevada and Wyoming, bringing expert care close to home — so his patients don't have to spend a day on the road to get the level of care a major city would offer.
He's worked the sidelines for the Oklahoma Sooners and the San Diego Padres. But ask him what matters and the answer is simpler: "My goal in life is about how many people I can help, how many lives I can change — and whether I can have a good time doing it. It's really about helping people, connecting with them, and feeling like I make a difference."
Dr. Allred is board certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine, and an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
He describes his wife as "better than me." They have five kids, several grandchildren, and a life full of mountain biking, skiing, and rodeos.
