Most people who see me don't need surgery. I'll tell you if you do — and I'll see you in your town.
I'm a board-certified orthopedic surgeon. I fly myself to Ely, Elko, Rawlins, Rock Springs and Buffalo. Between my visits, a local provider in each town sees you five days a week.

What do you need?
I want to be seen.
Find your town, see the next clinic day, and call. Between my visits the local provider can see you this week.

You shouldn't have to drive 300 miles to hear "let's not operate."
For fifteen years I ran a big referral practice in Denver. Other surgeons sent me the hard cases. I loved it. But I kept meeting people from small towns who had driven all day to see me, and most of them didn't need what they'd been told they needed.
I got my pilot's license just before I moved to Utah, and having it gave me the confidence to start flying to small towns instead of asking people to drive to a city. Same surgeon, same standard, at a hospital you already know. When you do need an operation, I do it there, with a team you've met.
"I cherished working with the Sooners and the Padres. But what I really love is taking care of normal people that need the help."

Most knees don't need surgery. Yours might not either.
I wrote down everything I tell patients about arthritic knees: what's actually wrong, what calms it down, and how to know if an operation is really the next step. The whole book is free. Download it today.
Read it on any device, or print it. The knee check needs no sign-up.

What people say after they've been seen.
"Dr. Allred performed a complex ACL reconstruction and meniscal transplant on me after 2 previous failed surgeries by another surgeon. Now my knee is finally pain free and stable. He is also a very attentive listener that really cares about his patients."
Tell me where it hurts.
Most of what walks into my clinic is one of these. Pick yours and I'll show you what I usually find and what we try first.
- My kneeArthritis, torn meniscus, ACL, "bone on bone", stiff or swollen
- My shoulderCan't lift it, rotator cuff, keeps popping out, frozen
- My hipGroin pain, hurts to walk, side-of-hip ache, replacement questions
- My hand or wristNumb fingers, trigger finger, thumb arthritis, a fall on the wrist
- My elbowTennis elbow, a torn biceps, a numb pinky, a break
- My foot or ankleAchilles, an ankle that keeps rolling, heel pain
Broken bones too. Not sure which one you are? Call anyway. My staff and I review every new referral.

If You Only Have Time for One, Lift
Running is good for your knees. Lifting is what keeps you standing.

How Long Does a Knee Replacement Last?
Longer than the number you were told in the '90s.
-
How Long Does a Shoulder Replacement Last?
It feels newer and scarier than a hip or knee. The numbers say otherwise.
Not sure what to do next? Call.
Someone who knows my schedule answers the phone at every clinic.
